Over the years all of us at JC Fossils have at one time or another participated in prospecting, mining, mineral collecting, etc… But finally we found a niche, which would suit us for life, digging fossils in Lincoln County Wyoming. Our Quarry is located right above Kemmerer, and we can honestly say, we wouldn’t be anywhere else, and while we love what we do; we are fairly new to the Green River Community.
JC Fossils began early in the 2005 season. Granted, due to us never having dug fossil fish commercially before, there were bumps and problems in the beginning; but those quickly gave way to our current achievements. (It’s hard to put in 14-hour days, 6 days a week and not learn anything.) Later in the year, after we became familiar with the rock, the fossils, and the general process, we began to work with a vigor that surprised even ourselves. We were finding fossils at an astonishing rate, and were gaining our place among the other quarries in terms of preparing. Eventually, the season ended, and we left happy, and contended, for we came, saw, and found a lot of fish!
In our quarry, we have the potential to find fossilized Bats, Birds, Stingrays, Plants, and 11 species of the best preserved Fossil Fish in the world. After these fish are found, they go through a preparation process of Air Scribing, Sealing, and if needed, Restoration.
We here at JC fossils appreciate you, your interest, and your business. We strive to keep quality high, and customer satisfaction high by putting your interests at heart. Please come back and visit us again, and if you have any questions or comments please contact us.
2006 Update:
The 2006 digging season was very good for us. We found lots of cool stuff. Some of the highlights:
In addition to digging in the Dempsey quarry, we picked up a lease in the Blue Moon Quarry. The Blue Moon Quarry is located much closer to the shore line of Fossil Lake. As a result, we find fossil plant material and insects in addition to the fish that we normally find. The fish are also colored differently, ranging from a fabulous carmel to chocolate brown, to a reddish black. We will have a nice assortment of this material in Tucson including some palm. The fossils from this quarry are in great demand and will go fast.
We found an excellent 3 1/2" Amia Fragosa, all while being filmed by the Travel Channel for their "Cash & Treasure show. The show will air in February of 2007.
We had a banner year for Stingrays with many being found. In fact, one day we found 4 with 3 being found in 15 minutes! We plan on taking about 4-5 rays to Tucson this year, so if you want one get to our room early.
Speaking of Tucson, we will still be at the Ramada Limited, but we will be in room 139 instead of the tent out back. Room 139 is right out front facing the courtyard, which should make it easy to find us.
Thanks,
Dan, James, & Jared Judd
